Process for implementing an alternate workweek schedule:

  • Initiate a request verbally or in writing.
  • Determine feasibility based on operational needs.
  • Check the appropriate collective bargaining agreement regarding union and employee notice requirements, and/or procedure covering alternate and flexible work schedules.
  • Consult your Human Resources Consultant for assistance.
  • Establish flexible hours.
  • Establish alternate work schedule or Pilot Program.

Definitions

Alternate work schedule may consist of 40 hours in one workweek or 80 hours within two consecutive workweeks.

Regular Day Off (RDO) is a designated day during the work schedule that the employee is off in exchange for working their full time hours in a compressed schedule.

Flexible hours or “Flextime” is not an Alternate workweek schedule, in that it does not include scheduled time in excess of 8 hours in a workday.

Core hours – Hours to ensure that staff is at the work site during certain times.  This ensures attendance at meetings, functions, high volume times, etc.
