Role of Supervisor

Maintaining a culture of safety is everyone’s job. Supervisors have the added responsibility of ensuring employee’s know and understand safety practices, are current with all safety procedures and training, and know how and when to report incidents and safety concerns. 

Injury types typically reported on campus include:

  • Slips, trips, and falls
  • Back pain associated with improper lifting technique ot handling heavy or bulky materials

Injuries and illnesses may be prevented by being aware of resources and participating in campus programs such as the Safety On Site Program (SOS), taking required safety training, receiving an ergonomic evaluation, and engaging in employee wellness programs.

At the department level, supervisors are responsible for promoting SOS that contributes to creating a campus safety culture.
