Role of Supervisor - An Overview

A supervisor’s main role in managing the disability process is to:

  • Be knowledgeable of disability laws and regulations and act in accordance with UC/UCI policies and procedures when handling disability leaves, Family and Medical Leaves (FML), reasonable accommodation requests, etc.
  • Ensure that employees (and applicants) with disabilities are not subjected to discriminatory or retaliatory treatment because of the following:
    • Their disability
    • Requests for reasonable accommodation
    • For engaging in any other conduct protected by the disability laws, such as filing a complaint about disability discrimination
    • Ensure employees have equal access to the benefits and privileges of employment.
