Role of Supervisor

A supervisor’s main role in administering actions involving compensation and classification is to:

  • Know the supervisor’s role and responsibilities in ensuring each employee is assigned the appropriate job title that reflects the essential functions and expectations of their work, and that each has a current position description for that assigned role. 
  • Have an understanding and knowledge of wage laws and regulations and how they impact compensation and classification decisions and actions
  • Be knowledgeable about UC/UCI policies and procedures for managing and addressing requests, questions, and issues such as:
    • Job title and classification criteria guidelines
    • Salary and pay grade adjustment options and criteria 
    • Reclassification eligibility guidelines and process for requesting
  • Know the resources and services available for assistance with managing staffing decisions and actions
