Role of Supervisor - An Overview

  • Prevention and Safety Awareness recognize when and how to respond. Be observant and respond appropriately to any reported safety concerns. Help prevent injuries/illnesses by raising safety awareness and correcting possible hazards. 
  • Investigate and Analyze Incidents – when injuries occur, gather as much information as you can, since these are the details that will most likely be needed during an investigation.   Be prepared to investigate and analyze incidents to help prevent further occurrences. Taking corrective action to prevent incidents from re-occurring is important, not just for safety reasons, but also to help reduce potential liabilities.
  • Report and Follow through – stay informed of any incidents reported or claims filed. Keep in touch with employee as they need to hear from you as well. Report any issues or concerns immediately to Workers’ Compensation unit. Remember to maintain confidentiality since information you come across may be sensitive in nature as well as protected information.
  • Cooperate with Investigations – your cooperation and assistance during all investigations is critical to avoiding unnecessary delays and appropriate follow through of any issues or concerns is timely addressed.   • Education & Training – create a culture of safety through training, awareness, and by modeling appropriate behaviors. On an annual basis, and as needed, be sure your employees understand their roles and responsibilities; and when they should speak up about potential or actual safety concerns or issues.
