- Pre-arrival – Create pre-arrival checklist prior to the new employee’s arrival which includes completion of required documents, welcoming activities, review of training plan, job description overview, and performance goals.
- First Day – Follow the Pre-Arrival Checklist
- Ensure completion of New Hire paperwork and verify documentation as required.
- Input information online or relay documents to proper department to set up payroll and benefits overview.
- Review policies and procedures such as working hours, attendance standards, dress code, parking, building access, use of portal pages (ZOT Portal page, AYSO, etc. ), breaks and lunch hours, safety, procedures for reporting absences/tardiness.
- Assign required compliance training and review compliance guidelines including Sexual Harassment.
- In the First Two Weeks – Make sure the new employee has completed new hire training and activities.
- Enrolled for benefits orientation (NEBO)
- Review of job description and goals
- Schedule of 1:1 meetings with supervisor
- Discussion of recommended learning and training plan
- At three months – Supervisor and employee should review progress, identify any concerns, and continue activities that develop skills, relationships, and competence in performing duties.
- Meet to review performance expectations, and employee’s performance and progress over the three months.
- Document performance and highlight areas of strength and those needing development or improvement.
- Answer questions about work, department, etc.
- Actively manage training goals and support learning needs.
- Ensure any required compliance training has been completed.

SUPERVISOR FOLLOW-UP REQUIRED
Onboarding of new staff is a shared effort between the supervisor, the new staff member, and others from the department. Early partnerships help to improve retention and foster an understanding of job expectations.
Important milestones with your new employee will occur at three, six, nine, and 12 months of the first year. Milestones are generally marked with review of expectations and accomplishments along with acknowledging employee’s continued progress and engagement in their work.
