UC-CORO Systemwide Leadership Program

Program Purpose:

To enhance leadership skills and foster relationships, networking and collaboration across UC

Participant Criteria:

The program is tailored for individuals at the Director level ("Nominees") and above who report to one of the following leadership positions ("Nominators")

  • Chancellor or Provost
  • President’s Executive Officer (COO, CFO, Systemwide Provost, etc.)
  • Medical Center Chief Officer (CEO, COO, CFO, CIO, etc.)
  • Vice President, Vice Chancellor or Vice Provost
  • Academic Dean
  • Associate/Assistant Vice Chancellor, Vice Provost or Vice President

The 2020 UC-CORO Systemwide Leadership Collaborative will be offered up to 60 high performing senior leaders from across the UC system. The participants will form a northern California cohort and a southern California cohort. Each cohort will follow the same curriculum which includes location exploration sessions where participants interview location leaders and have the opportunity to visit and learn about the institution. This provides a direct opportunity to get a sense of the physical, academic, administrative and cultural landscape of multiple University of California campuses.

The program is rigorous and requires a firm commitment of approximately 100 hours of seminars and intersession assignments. A group project requires an additional time commitment of at least 40 hours. This is a substantial commitment and by nominating an individual you are agreeing to the time commitment and support of their attendance.

Benefits of being chosen for the program include:

  • Enhanced leadership capabilities through exposure to and practice of leadership tools and concepts that emphasize self and group awareness, interpersonal communication and learning how to utilize UCs system and resources
  • A deepened connection to peers and colleagues and a network of leaders across UC
  • Increased knowledge and ability to initiate positive change and innovation across all levels of UC
  • Established relationships among the people in the cohort that will yield collaborative partnerships across the system

Program components consist of:

  • Twelve, full-day interactive class sessions held at various UC locations that include executive leadership interviews and opportunities to learn about UC’s unique educational opportunities, research and public service.
  • A Logic Study to create a culture of collaboration by:
    • Examining the complexities of an organization or department
    • Creating understanding of the leadership styles in/of the group
    • Establishing the group as a framework of learning for participant
  • A two-day systemwide People Management Conference.
  • Peer consultancy opportunities throughout the program.
  • A group project through which cohorts develop recommendations for a UC leader-sponsored initiative of systemwide import.
  • A final group presentation for UC senior leaders focusing on recommendations.
